SHOCK WEEK • Back

Can't tell you how good it is to be back in the gym with you guys. I hope you're still training hard and getting ready for April when the shirt comes off. Meanwhile, I'm keeping my muscles guessing, shocking them and making things happen. Here are some new moves for LevroneReport.com, and some things I haven't done in a long time. Part of what makes bodybuilding exciting is changing up the workouts. The great thing about this journey is that we'll never run out of new approaches. Once you learn to deeply appreciate that aspect of bodybuilding, try to pass that appreciation on to people in your life who could benefit from weight training. Weight training is seen by so many as pain and drudgery, but we know that it's an art form, an adventure, an emotional release, and an act of creation, all rolled into one. Something everyone can benefit from. Watch this video – I'm giving it all I got, visualizing every rep, pushing the heart rate. Your presence is still bringing out the best in me, so thanks for training with me for what will soon be a year. Amazing. Post a video, I want to see what you got – especially on the dumbell rows. I pulled 150 lbs dumbells on this video, son. Let's see how full-blown YOU can get with those. I'm dying to find out. Some of you guys who own the comment board, why not finally put your money where your mouth is.  :) (If you can't post a video, write it below.) Peace, Kevin [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3QQC4xKQ6I]

Hi Kevin, a question…In what part of April your shirt come off? Thx

  3. manny says:

damn kevin you r down right cut now….i got a question though i just started cutting too and i wanted to know if i should still due heavy sets in my cutting phase to keep my strength

  4. manny says:

and wats the best barbell complex you recomend to get cut faster…. im 245 pounds at 5’8 and i have a six pack but i also want to look like a veiny freak…did you start to look like that when you were at around 5% bodyfat…im 7% by the way

  5. JL2 says:

Wow! Looking great Kev! Man your arms are huge!! and cut up! Keep it up man. This blog got me back in the gym and I’m still at it. Thanks, I needed this!

  6. @manny

Just switch it up. Do heavy, do light, switch it up, you’re going to lose some strength and size when you lose body fat. When you get close to where you’re comfortable with your look try to throw some weight in there.

The way to get cut faster is to do more cardio – yeah I looked like that at 5%.

  7. ChefWillC says:

Kevin, should I use straps when doing d-bell rows or not? I’ve been using straps when I do most of my back workout, but want to know if this will effect my forearm growth. Let me know if I should also shock them by not using them on workout and then yes on the next. Thanks!

  8. marty says:

Nice Kevin.I just got up to the 150s with dumbell rows.I cant do them for a few weeks because I got a small partial tear in my left pec, benching 315 for reps.I can train around this though.I will send a video racking out seated cable pulls LOL.

  9. Antonio says:

    AWESOME !

In my foreign language. CHINGON ! way to hammer out them sets.
Thanks for the continued support to visualize our body transformation.

    1 more rep
    here we go.

  10. Norweigian says:

Great vid Kevin. Looking real good. On that last exercise you almost still got that pro bodybuilder touch. Amazing.

I have eased up training lately cause im doing some private house upgrates. And im just eating about 180 g pro so the weigths kind of feel heavy. BUT…there is a BIG but. From my experience i can tell that after the rain the sun wil come again, usually more hot and sunny than ever.
So my plan is to try to touch the weigths i use when im all in eating 300 g ++ each day and then reach for the sky when getting back to the high protein diett.

Anyway, the guys have begged for more pics of the famous norweigian and we cant let the guys down, ey Kev?
So here i am in my parrents backyard last summer, just before going to Afganistan and some little Osama ass kicking.

Hi Kev, a little question but very important for me and a lot of frenchies!! Do you come to “Salon Mondial Body Fitness Form Expo 2010 ” in Paris this weekend(12/13/14 march). There will be Chris Cormier, Melvin Anthony…
My hope and my dream would be to see you there!!!
Very good video for the back, the next week, i will do because yesterday i work my back.

  12. Spacemarine says:

Great workout Kev! I would like to see some heavy behind the neck presses in you endless transformation t-shirt :D

  13. Alexander says:

    Woah kevin!

You looked a little tired today, but you still held 100% focus during the exercise’s! And man when you pulled of your hoodshirt, first i noticed your t-shirt wich looks awsome btw, but then I WAS BLOWN AWAY MAN! and here i tought you had lost some muscle but man! That fired me up again!

And hey i actually laughed too, the clothes joke man, keep em coming, aint enough laughs in the world yet ;) .

Good luck man, cant wait for some pics!

@Norweigian, your one big dude, but man i would love do see you tanned and cut up man. Why do you keep fighting against it? give it a go and SHOCK (this weeks word) everyone here! As said we’re always here to support!

  14. polish_fan says:

Hi Kevin. No offence, but when you losing fat on your face you starting to look old. Maybe old is wrong word, you`re not looking like 30 anymore. ;)

  15. Michel R says:

Inspirational vid again, Kev… Thx for that. Went for another cardiorun and taping today and held this video as a reward afterward. Can we put the requested vids into the that’s what’s up, Levrone section? We’ll end it up with the line then. Our dumbells only go up to 110 and even those are never used really… I’m gonna give those guys a run somewhere this week and get it on tape too. Highest I ever went was 45 kg so that’s 100 and well, my grip couldn’t keep up with my back hehe… Four or five reps and gravity did its work on my fingers…

You’re feeling good and the vid shows it… Keep it up and thx once again for guiding us and firing us up, even when we’re not feeling 100%, as is the case with me. True leadership, bro…

You’re a big guy, Norweigian. I’m glad you’re showing us what da Norweigian is all about. Keep it up.

  16. How often do you write your blogs? I enjoy them a lot 4 5 7

  17. polish_fan says:

@Norweigian: How big are your arms? 50 cm?

  18. John says:

You da man Kevin. Great workout intensity and looking good. The separation in your arms is really starting to show. Any tips on how to get that peek on the biceps? 1 Arm Rows… I usually work up to the 125′s for about 10 reps. My current gym doesn’t have DB’s above that weight. I’ve also dropped the straps in recent years, I relied on them too much in the past for pulling exercises. Probably would grind out a few more reps with them, but my grip and forearms have gotten a lot stronger.

Thanks for everything you do with this blog!

  19. Heidar says:

Nice weight on the one arm rows! Wish my gym had heavier weights than 100lbs..

  20. Keith says:

    Tip of the day.

My gym only has 50kg (110lbs) but I bring in a roll of duct tape and stick a load of plates on.

Have gone upto 70kg (154lbs) using this method, could probably get some more weight on there but that is as heavy as my back can go without getting too loose on form.

  21. big-viking says:

nice workout kev, 2 questions for you and the comunity:
why dont you train deadlift? and can you have normal front lat pulldowns and the one you did now in the same workout, or do you just train the same part of the back?

  22. Ray says:

Hey Kevin , I just made a video for you

Hope you like it , I come from Taiwan , I always watch lev report !
You always inspired me , and tell us not give up , best wishes.

This movie spent me about 12 hour to make it , lol.

  23. Adam says:

    @ norweigian
your a big dude would like to see you cut up man
good work on posting up the pics too

    @ kev
ive gotten up to 6 reps of 40kg
    which is about 90ish pounds
    i weigh 72 kg which is 160
so not bad working up though haha

  24. Ray, thanks man. Speechless. Can see that took a lot of work. Very talented editor, nice going.

  25. moe says:

hey Kevin do you usually do 4 exercises for back, or is it just because you are trying to shock it by going really heavy with minimal exercises? Just wondering because I normally do like 8 exercises for back because its a pretty big muscle group and I thought that may be overkill.

  26. david penwell says:

@norweigian- why are your bdu’s tops and bottoms different styles camo? i have never seen anybody allowed to wear different mixed styles bdus or acus or anything.

  27. Chris (UK) says:

    Nice work ray;
Im in the same boat as the rest of you guys and my gym only has dumbells up to 110lbs but I can row these for 5 sets of 12. Im gonna have to take nearly a month off soon due to work and travel. not looking forward to that! aghhh lol

  28. Chris (UK) says:

p.s Kev your arms are looking immense haha yeah just the shirt ‘ll do! :)

  29. Ray, thanks man. Speechless. Can see that took a lot of work. Very talented editor, nice going.@Ray -

  30. @marty – Ray, thanks man. Speechless. Can see that took a lot of work. Very talented editor, nice going.

  31. max says:

you look great kevin! Keep posting videos like this please.I like this kind of training and tips.

    greetz max

  32. david penwell says:

a good back one i like to do a lot of a bodyweight row. lay under a bar in a squat rack and elevate your feet on a bench and row your body up and down. to add weights use a dip belt or something like that or even place plates on your stomach. i found its a great way to take stress off my lower back instead of doing barbell rows if i am feeling stress on my lower back from say a squat workout earlier in the week. or if i want to hit my upper back and be able to hit my legs a few days later without compromising my form due to a tired lower back.

  33. Erik says:

Very impressive, looking huge man! I hope you can show us some mandatory poses when the shirt comes off as well :)

  34. Hollander says:

Thanks Kevin for this great video and the call towards the community to post a video. I’ll pick it up and hope a lot will follow.

C’mon norweigian: show us a video of the great norweigian in action. Big that big body of yours it should be a walk in the park. Your last line isn’t serious btw, or is it?

  35. stefan rose (UK) says:

good workout kev, good to see you gettin a proper sweat on!
i usually go up 150′s on dumbell rows for around 12 reps, (192lb bodyweight, around 7% BF)
its a little late but i also finally got 405lb squat for 1 rep a couple of weeks ago :D
all in all, trainings good, and this blog continues to inspire.
    thanks.

  36. floris says:

hey kevin since i started doing your 3 day program im feeling and i see that im loosing muscle. Before i was training one part every day. For a cutting phase i find this program great but to gain muscle i thing that it doesn’t work for me what do you thing? the reason i think its that because i use to train one body part every day so to train 2 or 3 different parts a day seems like im over training what your opinion?

  37. Jovan Nikolic says:

I have two trainings for back. One is for back depth and the other is for back width.

First one will include: Deadlift, bent-over barbell rows, T-Bar rows (in the corner of the gym (I don’t like machine).

Second one: Chins (wide grip for great latissimus stimulation, I found this exercise probably the most important one for overall development of back), one arm dumbbell rows (in my gym there is only 115lbs heavy dumbbell, so I do this exercise most of the time on the end of training so I can do 10 reps and be exhausted on 3rd set), cable seated row (once again, I don’t like machines for back but I think this one is very underrated and I feel it great).

I would gladly record my workout or some set but my gym is always filled with people and I am not equipped with good recording device (HD camera or such). Being OCD, I can’t record myself with mobile phone.

Will try to find good cameraman. :)

Good work, Kevin. Keep us posted with your deltoids workout, I didn’t saw single one last few posts. ;)

  38. Zane Mcatee says:

This blog is great. How did you come up witht he idea? 8 5 7

  39. david penwell says:

@hollander- norweigian is wearing Marine Corps top and Army BDU bottoms. I dont know what branch of the military allows that but I can tell you its neither Marine nor Army. I was Army and my brother is Marine Corps. You can buy that gear at any surplus store.

  40. Norweigian says:

Hollander, no man, but they just need to make the call, for sure. I was educated with milytary dogs in the army, but im not certain they use guarding dogs in Afgan thesedays. Anyway i will be glad to help the Americans. I heard some bad rumors about the Dutches and the Canadian may chicken out, so…

David P, i just bougth them at the local military shop. I like to remember the military teaching dogs how to take down the enemy It was a very good year.

Polish, my rigth arm is more like 51, the left 50. But thats cold man. I have managed to turn those babys more like 53 after some heavy preacher moves.

  41. david penwell says:

@roger- that video is just urban wareware combat uniform though. every military has different uniforms for the different environments the war is located at the time. the majority used to be BDU to fit into jungle warfare now its ACU which is digital camo to blend into the building scenary of iraq and the middle east. but in nor way is norweigian wearing any standard uniform. it looks like maybe 2 different uniforms he purchased at a goodwill haha

  42. Adam says:

just got back from the gym
    smashed shoulders, legs and biceps
weird combo but i trained what was feeling good today
had a great pump going and am getting stronger with each workout
    peace

  43. david penwell says:

norweigian- what the heck are you talking about?
