I’m proud to present this video of a proud father and son hitting squats as a team. Working together brings many positive results but there is something extraordinary that happens when reality sets in.
It takes a great deal of courage, stamina and heart to go through a leg training session such as this but in the end it is well worth the pain, sweat and the occasional regurgitation of one’s stomach contents. Cody has a lot of potential but this little lion needed to know what it feels like to walk the talk. No Pain No Gain Baby.
This weekend we have the Maryland State Body Building Fitness Bikini competition in Baltimore MD. I Hope to see some of you guys there, My friend IFBB Pro Shawn Ray will be the guess MC. Congrats to IFBB Pro Richard Siegelmen for promoting a great show every year. More info go to www.marylandnpc.com
Enjoy,
Kevin
LOL! Dad learned the true meaning of “old school.” I know many people hate to squat, but I love it. I have had gotten some good results with my current workout method of doing 20 rep squats one week and 4 set of 4 the next. I have never puked though, so maybe I need to hit it harder. Good effort guys.
@ GC
Thats right GC its another world. Guys alway talk about how much they can lift but when it comes to real training with intensity they cant do it. If you cant do it don’t say you can because the steel will speak the truth.
I hate when people are so cocky and talk as if they can lift the world but when it comes down to actually doing it they dont lift as much because they dont got good form this was another example of the dad putting his foot in his mouth he said his son can do 500 lb he was strugling with 225 i belive it was in the video LOL
im glad kevin showed them the real deal hardcore training it was good seeing a video kevin kevin so what was ur decsion about competing in the masters
Awesome! It shows a valid lesson… Be careful what you brag about because if you’re not prepared then the iron will teach you the truth.
Thumbs up to Cody and his father!
Takes some courage to put it on film as well.
I’m confident they will hit it more for reps with intensity like this
Great clip Kevin!
Wants me wanna squat till’I\'drop.
lol. Claims to squat “in the fives”, yet has trouble repping out 225 with good form. These kids are a dime a dozen at this age, they can all squat 400 or 500 if you ask them, but when they actually load up that weight, they might do a couple of quarter reps at best.
It was a good try. That workout is definitely hardcore! Kevin knows what 500lbs squat feels like and it does take a lot of preparation both mentally and physically. I guess Kevin brought him back down from those clouds that kid was thinking he was on. Good job Kevin on showing them to leave the ego at the door. Cody had big legs but I think his arms weren’t proportional with his body.. Idk his legs look like it was the only thing he ever works out. I couldn’t believe he was 17. I was shocked! He looks older. I’m sure if Cody leaves his ego at the door he will be a great bodybuilder. After all bodybuilding it’s not about just moving weights from point A to point B.
Nowadays Bodybuilding looks like a solo sport (IMY)… But in this Vid shows me that you can never do it all alone.. That’s why I’m really impressed with this family.. Squatting that amount of weight is really hard.. But with training partners motivating and supporting you means a lot.. Thats Why I love Old School Bodybuilding….
I often found me in the situation that i want to put more weight on the bar for the next set, because i now the set will be done in a less time, due to the heavier weight ! Then i remind me of one those well spoken words, like this phrase: “Working the muscle, not the weight ”
So , for me it means: its all about working purely in the muscle! to squeezing it and get a full range of motion, heavy weights are impressive and important too sometimes…but not mainly…
Extremely entertaining to see those guys suffer.
However Kevin, you could have at least joined him for the 20x225 as cardio.

On top of that too, he would have done it easily and with perfect form.
Way to go Kev, show them how it should be done! I had a experiance like this with Mark Dugdale but I did wahat I was suposed to on the leg press. We started with 4 plates each side 50 reps, 6 plates 40 reps 8 plates 30 reps 10 plates 20 reps 12 plates 10 reps!!! then reverse it all the way up to 50 reps again, I will never forget that workout….
@20:18 -- Kevin “So say that again”
Pops “Well I went n throw up”
Kevin “That’s how u do it”
Classic =)
Yeah, pretty funny to watch. Of course, it would have been nice to let him squat 500+. Why didn’t you? That’s what he said he could do.
that kid was strong for his age for sure. He could never do a legit 500 lb squat.. I bet he has had that weight on and did a half squat or partial , but to go all the way dowm=n yeah right!
Pingback: Father and son squat team
Thats what I’m talking about!!!!!!!!! Loved it!!! Kev had to put them in there place. Talk is cheap, get in the gym and prove it!
Obviously, Kevin, feels a little disrespected or insulted by the numbers the father & son combo claim. I am not sure of their motivation to allege such numbers but I give the kid some credit for his leg development (which what I have witnessed on TLR is better than guys twice his age). However, no one likes BS, so why they spit it to Kevin IDK unless it was to get on TLR. Hey, we all just tuned in for them. Not sure where he found the two clowns but I live right in the DMV (DC , Maryland & Virginia) area and have asked for a leg day with anyone local including The IFBB HOF himself to a leg day ( it would just be a humbling honor for me). I, along with many of TLR members probably came up looking at Kevin for knowledge and motivation. You see me being so close to his hometown you think I would get an acknowledgement, but, no he is too worried about showing up a teenager. Seriously, everyone knows the worst thing on the planet is teenagers, so why is it a surprise he would feed him BS and believe he is the true IFBB. Why? Cause he is a KID! Personally, I have come across a lot worse teenagers than this one. If that’s the moral of this story?!
@marty -- nice workout idea. Think ill give’er a try
I still get a kick out of that father and son team lol. A lesson in humility taught well. I even went to MD and saw the Seth video and love the part where the guy is on the ground and Kevin looking at him and saying… “do you know why you are an ifbb pro? Because people can’t do what you are doing right now! Love it!
Hi Kev
That was entertaining AND educational.
Props to the father and son they have a great attitude to training but it’s obviously more about weight than reps.
4x20 is a crippling leg workout! Is that a staple IFBB pro leg session?
I really enjoyed that video and liked the level of respect you showed them despite their opening claims.
For 17 Cody looks really solid.
was up Kevin? live for something or die for nothing?. Are you stil an iron warrior?

I couldnt find that Seth leg workout on MD, can you post a link or tell me where to find it? whats the video titled?
Hi Kevin,
10 days left to post Levrolympia 2012 pictures. Are you still going to do it?
Peace
yo brothers of iron! went downtown this weeked and had a couple of beers and champagne with some friends. I became pretty messed up, but i avoided figths though some pencilnecks had to comment my looks. Sometimes it realy triggers the fingers, but one got to know. Loosers only do streetfigths and the consequences migth be horrible if a moran crashes his head into a stone or something when he flies througth the air due to your hit.
But the best thing, didnt notice any lack of strength this monday.
peace out
Brothers of the gym….awesome video on leg training….I learned the hard way that squatting is the foundation of your workout program….you cannot ignore squats….all in all good form…
