Dont worry about a damn thing Kevin, all this shows is that your only human like the rest of us. You know you have it and I’m sure you’l bang it out next time. Rest that knee, the 3 squats you did looked good and strong so obviously the strength is there, but if the joint is dodgy there’s no point risking it.
I feel for you man didn’t have the greatest leg workout yesterday did 220lbs again for 4 reps but my depth wasn’t the greatest and didn’t jump weight but next week most defiantly ill be able to throw another 10 to 15lbs on!
I believe in you i know you can squat 440 then 500 in no time man!!
You did your best on the day Kevin, smart move to stop rather than risk injury. I wish I had listened to my body more often like you did today…I would have had far fewer injuries. Anyway Kevin, we KNOW you’re going to get that weight of 500. not a matter of if, simply when.
Thanks for posting your vids, inspirational!
Good job man, I know you got it in you to do this. Do what your body tells you to do. More time to rest, maybe its something else you need. Im about to do my leg workout soon…trying to go for 4 sets of 4 at 315 for squats. Im feeling kinda tired from Finals this week but we’ll see how it goes when I get to it.
Keep up the good work….always waiting for the next vid.
Take care of the knee, you don’t need it blowing out – that’s a nasty one to get over.
You still inspire us all and the fact that you have hit a bit of a wall (like the rest of us do) will show us how you get over it and move on.
Take care, Will; still stuck on 285 and looking for 315lbs.
The honor is mine, Kevin. Philly says thx for the shout out. We made another video of my squats. I thought you might need a little more inspiration, so check it out. I stopped at my 3rd rep with 305. I felt it in the hole, man. I knew I didn’t have another rep so I racked it. We’ll get there tho.
You look disappointed, don’t be bro you made the right move. We all have those days. hell even weeks. You help us all get through them one day at a time. Now it’s our turn to back you up! Stay the course and you’ll get there!
“Every Beach Starts With A Pebble Of Sand” ! and lots of pebbles get washed out before the beach is complete !~
Now we are into championship territory. It will be good to see how an experienced bodybuilder can read or listen to their body and make smart decisions accordingly. The three reps still looked good, coming right out of the hole shooting up with good speed. Next time its light weight baby, you already know you can do it.
I hope your knee gets better man. Those squats looked like you got ‘em easy, if your knee gets better, you know you got it. Maybe you can post some videos of other things you’re doing in the gym besides squats these days if you got the time. Get better bro.
I think we all want to know what you are going to do to get that knee into shape to squat 500 lbs in just two weeks. Mr. Miyagi’s going to rub his hands together. I don’t know, I hate to see you wounded in action but I digging this suspense. You lost the battle, but you have two weeks to win a war. you can do it, we believe. keep in mind our support.
You made the 440 look light Kevin, we all know you’ve got 500 in the tank! Sometimes the joints give in a bit, especially with the cold weather you guys have this time of year. Good luck in the next adventure of a squat session!
To all the others doing their own Squat program (as I am too). Realize a few things. In order to add the kind of weight Kev does (15-30 lbs per session) you *better* be on your recovering game. If you aren’t, don’t even bother pushing it. It takes quite the man to be squatting twice a week and adding weight each time. Only a growing man. Only a man that is sleeping well over 8 hours a night, eating a bunch of natural, whole foods rich in proteins, carbs, and fats. And only a man that maintains his form over his ego. I can picture a few of you not taking those squats to full depth, just so you can add more weight to the bar. I’ve been there, done that, and 7 years ago tore my meniscus in my left knee. These days, I am doing this wave progression starting far lighter. Just hit 4x4 with 2 plates yesterday and I can do that with 275 no problem. My point is, I started this (8 week, squat twice per week, 4x4) program with only 205lbs 3 sessions ago. I am adding 10 lbs per session=20 a week. You start adding that up and soon I’m well over 300 lbs.
There is nothing “unmanly” about taking your time with these goals fellas. Makes the day you hit that 200, 300, 400, or even 500 lb squat that much sweeter!
Oh, for the record, my goal at the end of 8 weeks is 365x4.
Im not Mad at you Big Dog, Im right there with you. I am following your 4x4 plan on squats, inclines, millitaries and Deads. it Works. i hit a snag at 495 last week in the Deads. seeing you take a step back reinforces me doing the same. i been resting up and a week later, im ready to try again. thanks for getting me fired up, i believe in you, train smarter to train harder.
Kevin, I thought about the fire that inspires when I pulled my last set of deads today. Just when I thought I didn’t have any thing left in the tank, I pulled a personal record. I just wanted to let you know that you truly do inspire us.
I could tell you to “keep it up” or “your first three looked easy” or some other encouraging comment, but the fact remains that YOU are the only one who controls what happens when you’re under that bar.
hi Kev, i think its great you made this vid, even though you didnt get the satisfaction you wanted, you hsve shown us how important it is to listen to our bodies, (the crux of bodybuilding progress) i will remember that. get well soon and rest that knee. no sense in fighting against the body. all the best. waitiing patiently for the next vid!
You know what Ronnie would say, light weight, light weight ain’t nothing but a peanut… I say Kevin maybe you need more reps in the warm ups to maintain strength… I maybe wrong but seems like doing singles for warmups makes the body lazy, accustomed to doing only singles and when you do get to the higher weight to do the 4 reps… body wants to keep doing singles, so it becomes harder…. why not maintain 4 reps consistently for warm ups too… sure high volume, lots of sets but I think strength would increase greatly….
Just saw an old video on Youtube you’ve probably seen it…. of oldtimer Tom Platz squating 500 23 reps….
hope that helps inspire…. it looks like though the back of his legs are thick, massive like rubberband help at bottom spring him up, notice bouncing…
I recently improved my squat from a pathetic 100 lbs to 200 lbs…in under 30 days… I weight 150lbs… hopefully one day I can get my squat back up to my best of 315 and expand on it to 400 then 500… I’m shooting for the same goal…
Jonathan Winters, Tom Platz did insane volume training, most people agree now a days the warm up is not suppose to exhaust you, so that you can do the real work during work set, its all a balance
I have never been a crying-sister, so then we go…Yo man, i saw this was coming up last time. 425 was ok and u felt ok you said, but u did put on the legwraps. And thats why it felt “easy”. Taking it from there ya cannot put another legwraps on, so now its human muscles which have to do the increase. But i have never seen a powerlifter nor a bodybuilder train like this. To raise your power, you cannot do 4x4 every week. There has to be some kind of variation. Powerlifters go often easy on mondays, middle on weds and heavy on fridays. Even if you got the most giftet body in the world, it cannot be done like this. And i think you are beginning to loose that beginners progress also. You have been training hard since april and even if your name is Kevin Levrone, weigths cannot be played around with.
Forget the vizualization stuff also. Its just a bunch of crap. Whats works is smarter trainging, more protein and better rest and a good life.
I guess your beginning to hate me now, rigth? You do that, thats ok with me, but listen. I thougth you looked very good. Your thighs looked bigger and stronger and i admit i was surprised when it stopped. I think your hole body looked bigger and stronger too.
And i really enjoyed the vid. Hearing you speaking and just seeing you in a new vid, is very nice too me. Even if its about vizing. Why, because you are one of the best in the thoughest sport in the world and its something about you man that i really like which did not get to my mind when i was following you in the competing days.
Kevin,
Your videos are very inspirational, but this one is actually very emotional.
This just shows how hard and ruff this journey can be, and you’re sharing it with us!
We believe in you Kevin, but the most important thing is believing in yourself.
You yourself already know the answer to this problem; Visualization.
But hey, I don’t want to preach what you already know.
Keep it up.
Lift hard.
PS-I’ve just reached my challenge in my 4th week of my 4x4 program in bench.
It’s not a lot now… But it will be
good effort kev those 3 you banged out looked strong

adam
@Norweigien I can tell your a fan of Kevin’s and you probably appreciate this blog. But… you’re trying to bait Kevin into a one on one conversation with yourself and maybe you have a total lack of respect for the man. I notice you try and bait him in most entries of you make, why?
Saying things such as, “Visualization is crap” shows no respect for Kevin or most of the guys here. It is not crap at all, I know I am a better person today both in the gym and personally because the wise words from Kevin and the rest of the fellas here.
Re-group, kev…!!! Go home for the day, eat good , sleep alot…give it a few days…come back when your Mind,Body And heart is into it…Well we all kno you got soul bro…!!! Be safe my friend…you will knot it out 100% in a few days…Mon nit is your nit….4 days of R&R!!!
Great job Kevin in listening to your body last time ignored mine it cost me so im with you on that Those squats you performed were perfect. Thanks for the inspiration I will continue to achieve my goals visualizing it works for me.
I think its great that you even posted the vid. Most people let their ego get the best of them and will either keep pushing and probably hurt themselves or not even post the vid. A lot of men dont want to let anybody see then back down. But I love it. It shows us how to always listen to the body and play it smart. I’m glad you did what you did and more so that you actually posted the vid. You’re a stand up guy. Get that rest and come back strong!!! Keep up the good work. God Bless.
Agree with JL2 , Kevin is human and great to see he didnt let his ego in the way and truely shows us our “hero’s” get sore and need to rest up as well.
Thanks for posting the vid. I wished I had listened to my body, instead of sustaining multiple injuries I have. Rest up and I’m sure you will come back stronger and hit the 500, if not it has been a fantastic journey already.
It takes some courage going under that loaded bar (with 200-300-400 or 500lbs), but it also takes courage to step out from under it, when the (mental or physical) signs are not in favor of continuing… There are alot of folks following this blog and through this vid you show them all that safety and health comes first. There’s no benefit to an injury. Don’t be disappointed, you just showed us again why you’re the best…
Thx for the shout-out, bro… Just trying to return some energy/positivity to this community since you all inspire me so much…
good to see you are human hehehe,,, better to be safe then sorry, blowing out a knee could end everything even your life with 440 coming crashing down. Still it looked easy so youl probably have it next time.
Got to say Kev, it probably takes more of a man to quit like you did there and not boulder on, just shows me what a champion you are. and hey we will get that 440, we’ll all be there with you when you hit it
Never mind Levrone! theres always another time to get that 500lb, just rest up!
I see visualization! dosnt work for the Norweigan hahah well you missing out Norweigan, keep on with the roids instead, like they gonna do you good in the long run, they just gonna give you some nice little ‘titties’
Brother you are an absolute beast, it doesn’t mean jack if you didn’t do it today……the fact of the matter is, you said you’re gonna be regrouping, digging deep and bigger and better things are to come…….that’s what any of us gotta do when we hit a rut.
That’s why this community is so great, we all motivate one another…….keep strong Kevin Levrone.
Agree with the posters above, no shame in knowing when your body’s not upto it. I’m taking inspiration from your vids and will probably run a similar routine when the weather cools down here.
thanks dog, for showing us that even a champion can think smart, and say stop when he don’t feel right. that means i can too, right..i actually have a huge problem with my ego when it comes to squatting and deadlifts..i’ll try to think of this vid whenever im struggling wid my ego, come dead/squat-day.
Good job Kevin. That was very smart to stop and not chance it with the 4th rep. I am sure you avoided a more serious injury which could set you back for some time. Like you said, not every day is the same and that’s fine. You should your wisdom and experience by pulling out early. As far as Norw. comments go, the guy is slowly starting to loose it. Visualization is a proven method that has helped some of the best World’s athletes such as Arnold, Jordan, Monica Seles (tennis -- she said she won or lost every single match before she stepped on the court because she played it out in her head first) and many many others. The saying “where the mind goes the body will follow” has been around for a long time and the benefits of visualization are not even to be questioned any more today.
Perhaps there are some people that don’t have that ability so they can’t understand its potential and we have to respect that too. That might be a reason for Norw’s comment aside of the fact that he just likes to be different so people notice him more. Not that anything is wrong with that. Everybody has the right to be heard and present their own opinion but in a respectful manner please.
Rest up Kev and I hope the knee is fine. The key is to stay healthy, happy and injury free!
Hey the Norweigian ive gotta write this because its been in my head ever since you posted your pictures
To be honest mate i dont think from looking at your pictures that Kevin or any other bodybuilder is your idol, it looks like Butterbean is your idol, you know with the titties and all! SO WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT ‘TITTIES’!
“Visualization is crap?” Kevin says it worked for him, Arnold talks about it at great length in education of a bodybuilder. If you don’t believe in it, Norweigen, thats your choice but i do think its idiotic telling kevin to ” give up that crap” just because he didnt finish this workout.
I actually found this one of the most interesting videos of the transformation. If i’d followed this kind of advice a few years ago i could have avoided many injuries i think.
Hey dude, Im right with you on this one Kev! Ive had to do the same thing man bout a week back or so- (check my previous comments) the squats are a killer its not the same as benching. Remember there are limits to human capacity even for a pro like yourself!
I came off the squats for a bit and tried not to even think about them -- ive been doing other bits like having a swim etc- juts to get the blood going, get the nutrients round etc. Then I had couple of days off- and yesterday I hit it and guess what i just about got back on the program I did 3 sets of 4 at 420 and just did one more set of lighter but higher reps. My goal was 420 for 4 x 4 so im getting close. Im not sure if thisll help yourself or anyone else but its working for me! peace
p.s youve climbed high getting to 440 ur just 36kg away. so either way you look at it its not far, if u decide to pull up just short uve still made incredible progress,
kevin anyone who has done this long enough knows injuries is part of it.even a niggle can put you off when 100% focus is required, let the body heal and go again.
norweigian you cannot perform at your best without some visualization, how could you possibly lift far more than the body is use to without it.the mind both leads and controls the body.
norwegian why the fuck are you wondering so much about those 3 reps?
1. kevin always said that when you can’t do those 4 sets of 4 in a workout, no matter, you try it again next time. that’s a rule. do you seriously all think that only because of doing this 4 sets of 4 you can increase each and every time?
2. those 15 pounds more than last time don’t have anything to do with those leg wraps. i mean, bro, have you never used it over a period of time? and anyways, kevin has a lot more experience than any of us, he handled weights much bigger than those ones he is using right now. if he feels a bit uncomfortable he stops and try again next time.
3. “visualization is crap”. dude, you just haven’t done it enough serious, that’s all. it works for kevin and it works for lots of other guys. if you gave it a chance and it hasn’t worked for you. man, i’m sorry, then you just need to use another approach.
just because there are things you could do even better, it’s not an option to say that everybody else is wrong. maybe it it just your personality and your character, which forces you to do things a little bit different than the majority of other athletes can do.
good video kevin. i know you are aware of what you are doing a 100%. you did it all before so take your time for this. you have the whole community -- and lots of others who don’t post in this blog but talk about it in all kinds of boards -- behind you. good luck.
I am a big fan of Kevin’s. He remains my favorite pro and I am happy that he is training again, and especially since he is doing it in a healthy way(up until the heavy squats, which I’m not so sure about considering his previous back problems)but I agree with Norwegian 100%.
It’s kinda creepy to see how people are flaming Norwegian for his polite (and correct, imo) comments, I think this is becoming more like a cult for every week. All hail the mighty visualization!
Enough with the visualization vids, already(its funny how great visualization works when your in the top 0.001% of genetics, by the way. for the average joe..eeeeh…not so much…)!
I also enjoyed the blog more when Kevin posted all whis workout, not just the one lift he was working on. Is he even training the other stuff, and if yes, then how hard? Are we talking rubber bands and obstacle course or real training? Also, if Kevin is training more for health now, why the low-rep powerlifting stuff? Heavy low-reps training has a negative effect on blood pressure even in natural athletes.
I hope you are not just doing this because you’re broke, Kevin(as a lot of posters on other BB forums claim), and looking forward to seeing more varied, bodybuilding-style vids.
Thanks guys, your comments mean a lot to me, most of us are on the same page. This will be about digging deeper, rallying and rising to the occasion. I will need every ounce of support you can muster.
It’s important to know what visualization is, and what it isn’t. It’s part of the puzzle, but not the whole thing. It’s worth mastering, but like anything, it has limits, and has to work in congress with your body.
Visualization is not crap, but nor is it magic. Visualization is but one tool in the service of greatness. It’s power is elusive to many, which is why excellence is more common than transcendence…why there are so few champions.
A champion is someone who steps into his vision and makes it real in this life. It is not the ambition of your dream that matters, but that you step into it. You can’t step into what you can’t see. A dream by definition is what you dare to envision.
Norwegian may be right about one thing: you can’t simply visualize your way out of a knee situation. It’s going to take more than that…
Levrone has the power to perform 440lbs for 4x4 but he likes suspense for the audience.
I am a fanatic of conspiracy theories. Since 1950 there are space-aliens in White House who tutor every President.
It happens. I was following “Strive for 405lbs” and enjoyed your progress. Squat is, as you know I am sure, much more complicated movement that flat bench press.
I am with you -- health is most precious thing in the world. There is no weight on squat that can buy it.
A champion is someone who steps into his vision and makes it real in this life. It is not the ambition of your dream that matters, but that you step into it. You can’t step into what you can’t see. A dream by definition is what you dare to envision.
…on the wall over my bed
thanks man, hope you know that there are people who get all of their motivation and inspiration from you.
smart, veteran move stopping there after feeling something in your knee. That’s some serious weight man… especially after a 4.5 year layoff! I guess your joints weren’t quite ready but your muscles could have pushed it out easy.
You gotta listen to what your body is trying to tell you… smart move. As for me I’m going for my goal of 275 next workout, I’ll be thinking about you man. I’m sure you’ll come out of this stronger! Peace
You must pull out as soon as you fell something isnt right or else you will cause permenant damage. You cant mentally push yourself through an injury nobody can do that or else they will cause serious damage.
Respect for shutting down the squats, you did the right thing. Someone else might have ‘toughed it out’ knowing they had an audience and then injured themselves.
Focus, visulisation and determination? Yes! But no knees = no squatting You showed us a great example there, thanks.
The reps looked good Kevin, if you didnt feel it then you did the right thing. I think showing some of the younger guys, heck even some of the old more stubborn lifter that some days you just dont have it and that we are not indestructible and then having enough pride to show the world is very honorable of you. Class act in my opinion.
You will get the 500lbs. I know it, and I know you know it. Just visualize and achieve, right?
Best of luck Kevin, like always its been great watching your blog.
Smart move, man! We are all with you! The real champion has a brain not smaller than his muscles. I respect you. You do not take some pills and go through your body, you can listen to your body -- it is much valuable!
Take some time for rest and … GO GET IT CHAMP! =)
Faithfully yours!
P.S. Now I’m going for my training really inspired by you!
KEV MAN SOME DAYS U FEEL IT OTHER DAYS YOU DON’T. IM A BEGINNER BODYBUILDER SO THAT WAS A GOOD LESSON 4 ME. YOU AND MY POPS SAY THE SAME THING BETTER SAFE THEN SORRY. YOU WILL BOUNCE BACK. REST THAT KNEE MAN PEACE
I felt Kevin here as mush as ever. I toned it down when I was feeling my knee and lower back a week or so ago. I took a break with the poundage.
Kevin, I’m really hoping you get 500. However, you are close and you still are developing a great body in this iron comeback. Best of luck. Stay healthy.
Well said Kev. Visualization is not the whole pie, but a critical component to success.
This just shows your experience and seasoning and why you are one of the best. How you deal with adversities rather than victories shows the type of champion you are.
Its kinda good to see your human! Rest up and get at it with more fokus then ever! snd Kev… Im sory to ask, but when are you going to start discuss steroids on here? I got the impression you would after your pull, would be intresting! Cheers
Kev, can’t you concentrate on 2 weeks of hard leg pressing for reps, and squat a medium weight for you in this time to allow some strengthening of your tendons and ligaments. You know you can lift legendary weight in the press, I think this will give you the mental and physical boost you need to feel comfy at 440, which is a serious mf of a weight natural! Just a thought, look forward to your next post.
ps. i’m doing another natural show next year sometime and your website is a serious energy source when I train, I can even hear myself saying “that’s whats up Levrone!” after some of my sets.
All the best,
UKStu
Definitely playing it smart there listening to your body bro. Better to pull out, rest up, and come back strong than risk an injury that could put you off on the side line for a while.
That 440 will go down next time no doubt, it may have won the battle, but not the war!
kev please don’t punish yourself or feel too down..you did the right thing stepping away..
It’s far too heavy a weight to take a gamble on… Your health and well being must come first..
Take time to recoup..don’t force the program…and only return to squat if or when you feel ready.
I’m sure I speak for us all when I say we want a healthy kev rather than a broken one
I think this is one of those situation, especially when the whole world is looking at you, that you have to dig really deep within to regroup and take the time to double check your plan so you can make an educated next step.
It’s not how much you’ll squat in the end that will leave the deepest impression on us but how you’ll handle this very situation and the mental toughness you’ll exhibit. I hope you could achieve 500 primarily for yourself, so you could feel the enjoyment of achieving (again) such a feat. On the other end, if the risks to achieve that one, single goal compromises the others you have left in your bag, I don’t think it would be worth it. But it’s obviously your call. Rest assured that everyone is with you, whichever way it goes from here.
@ Kevin… Smart! That’s why you are where you are! You don’t take risks with your joints. A knee injury could end squatting for good! I know guys that have multiple surgeries to the same knee cause once you tear/damage a tendon/ligament, your joint is never the same and after a surgery like that, your knee is wrecked for quite a while! I help people rehab from knee surgeries and have assisted with several knee replacement surgeries… THEY ARE BRUTAL!!!
My point is… you got to play it smart like Kevin. You only have one body. That includes what you put into your body to make it bigger as well. Watch a young person die from liver failure and you will have a whole new respect for what your liver does for you!
Peace and awesome vid Kev! Way to keep it real brother!!!
Thanks for sharing that video Kevin! Your motivation is very inspiring and the fact that you show both the good moments as well as the less fortunate moments, is evidence that your keeping it real. Keep it up Kevin, you’re going to hit 500lbs here real soon! We all believe in you!
Form looked good! its best to listen to your body and play it safe.
I know you say that everyone here on the levrone rapport is your fuel and fire man, And so are you to us (and me)
You answered my mail when i had a really rough day, And i didnt belive that someone like yourself would take the time and effort to write from the heart and inspire me. And when i feel weak or it dont feel right i watch some videos think about what you and people around me said and go on trying again and keep moving forward.
“move on in spite of adversity. That’s what it’s all about. Keep training and doing your thing, life will always try to bring you down, the best thing to do is hustle toward your goals and not wallow in loss”
I hope that qoute helps inspire you to push on and keep fighting, It should,
cause you said it! =)
Its a good call Kevin. Your not the young man like before who made his living by getting bigger and stronger. You’ve got a kid, a family, and a career. Take it slow, and honestly you are not that far off 500lbs. If you can squat 440X4, I’m sure you will get there soon. Take your time, heal, and go up slowly in weight. Good luck bro.
i thought this might be a funny issue to bring up… the site says purchase a tshirt to win a free chance to talk with kevin during the new years resolution thing…. purchase a shirt kind of cancels out the free point of it doesnt it? haha
“Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them — a desire, a dream, a vision.” You Kevin, are a true champion and will persevere.
Descansa un poco más, volverás más fuerte (rest a bit more, you’ll come back stronger).
Sería bueno que postearas otras actividades diarias que realizas, a la gente le gusta eso, recuerda que eres un modelo a seguir en el gimnasio y lo debes ser fuera de él. Dios te bendiga.
Translation:
It’d be good if you posted some other daily activities of yours, people like that, remember that you’re an example to follow in the gym and you must be an example outside of it, too. God bless you.
Mark_ UK, i look like Butterbean, ha? Yeah rigth. Just because i fill out the viz-discussion. Every topic needs a wide horizon and even if its a bit out of reality, its vital to get other views in there. Why? Because it will strengthen the arguments. Like the climatemeeting these days. We need the doubters and the believers. If everyone agreed on the human part of the global warming, it could be dangerous. We need the FNcritics, so the climatescientists really need to bring up real proven methods and reports. And their arguments need to be tested. Or else it would be just halleluja and nazi.
Its not crap, but trusting the viz when you got some nasty ass bar on your neck, its not it. You gotta have some heavy proteindays in there and a serious amount of complex carbohydrates and your body got to be strong enough. Thats the way i see it, guys. Vizing is just the tip of the sword and not the real deal. But i dont mean Kevin said vizualisation was the real deal. Kevin was accurate in his descriptions, but some of you ladies hava a tendensy to kneel everytime there is a new vid in here, and thats something i cannot allow, you know.
Always pay attention to your body like you said. Usually connective tissue takes a bit longer to strengthen then muscle fiber and is the first to get injured. My bench has gone up over 150lbs in 6 months since I been back training but I have to watch my shoulders and the chest tie in tissues. What happened is a good lesson for everybody who watches your videos and is apart of the community.
You did the most sensible thing you could do, listen to your body. Something I have learned as I got older. Rest, recover and come back stronger next time.
There’s always a probability of injury when you training especially with heavy weights. You can be completly focused and attack the weight mentally but that doesn’t necessarily imply that the body will follow through. I respect Kevin for shutting down his leg training for 2 main reasons:
1. The “feeling” he got when he did his last squat is the feeling most people would normally ignore or brush off. The “Hey I got this” attitude jumps in and they may feel obligated to continue or complete another set (I’m already in the gym and people are lookin at me…). This is when you are most vulnerable to injuries
2. In Kevin’s case, he has the whole world lookin at him (with his cam) while he trains. Some folks may have the tendency of pushin themselves even harder when there is a camera present. That may or may not be a bad thing but its obvious that Kevin doesn’t succumb to this potential peer pressure.
On a side note: I’ve read some pretty harsh comments left from folks who probably never touched a bar bell in their life. Comments like Kevin is lookin annorexic and that he obtained a muscle wasting disease that why he stopped competing (incredible). You know wut I say to these folks: Keep the comments coming whether its good or bad it doesn’t matter. Keep on hating…I’ll gonna keep on training
Sometimes -now is one of those occasions- Norweigian has a point, although the way he brings his messages always remain as blunt as possible… Not the way I would or will communicate IRL or online with folks, but this is his niche and he brings a lil diversity and adversity to this blog… Took me awhile to admit it, but the Levronereport without Norweigian (who was here from day one) isn’t the same…
I agree Norweigian you bring discussion, which yes is good and bad but thats just you you like to be like that but when you write some of the things you write, im gonna let you know if you piss me off, im just like that when people piss me off and im gonna get at you in what ever way i can.
Norweigian has the ability to always have a way to explain himself out of things, when he regrets what he has written.
Nor: first you say, viz is crap. then in the next post you say it’s not crap.
If you want us to respect you, then say something, and stick with it. it’s difficult to take you seroiusly of you keep going against yourself all the time.
i totally agree with you, i dont want this to be some kind of cult where evrybody wiggles their tail evrytime Kevin says something.
BUT: you seem to be saying things just to get attention sometimes; or more precisely;to get Kevins attention.
it’s so obvious that you always make extreme comments to get the attention your way.
I came across this video of Ronnie Coleman and you. Are these weights in the bench press etc genuine? I suspect they are…wow talk about monstrous weights
I did it! I am meeting with the promoter of the Natural Diamond Classic next month to discuss the competition, which is next September. I also broke the news to my coworkers and friends that yes, I am a bodybuilder. I get grilled at work on why I eat the way I do and why I don’t eat all the sugary crap, etc.
I wanted to let all my fellow bodybuilders know because I don’t think I would have taken the initiative to contact that promoter if it wouldn’t have been for my brothers on this page like MICHER R!!!
Kevin, thanks man for your awesome words of wisdom and setting the example as you do! Trust me brother, I am not down on my knees worshipping the ground you walk on or a groupee like another member on this site seems to think alot of us are. I disagree with his statement and don’t know to many serious gym rats that would get on their knees for anyone, anyways, I did want to say thank you!
Good shit, Em… Like I said before, you’ll pull it off since you have the determination. Don’t let other folks distract you from your mission… And they’ll try without a doubt… Sometimes it’s easier to laugh at or with things than to actually try and understand why a person sets a goal in his life…
This one is for da Kevster… Like you know last week I had some trouble with my six 45. Mentally I wasn’t ready or even unsure and the squat almost got me… Being sick and all forced me to cancel Monday’s appointment with Mr Nemesis, so today we caught up again… Mentally I was focused and this video was on my mind, so I racked out a controlled 4x4 without any doubts nor hesitation… Your vid showed us that you already have the power to surpass the 440 objectif, but the mental part wasn’t ok this week… So, just giving you a big thumbs out from me and to show you that a lil setback isn’t the end of the war, bro… Like you said the challenge is on and next encounter you’ll make that 440 Nemesis beg for mercy…. Hope my small story helps you fire up for the next encounter… You’ll know when you’re ready! And we’re all behind you on this one… BOOM!
Secondly today I broke my 4x4 incline smithbench with 6lbs to now 187… All due to you guys…
Great Job Kevin! You are a great body builder but an even greater teacher! Thank you for the great lessons Kevin. You videos help me to improve on my squatting technique and form. I have been recuperating from an old knee injury for what seems like a month now. I am feeling fantastic and will be pushing my max on squat over Christmas holiday. Currently my best is 300lbs. X 10 reps. Over break I plan to pyramid the weight up to see what my 1 rep max will be on squats. After all the capillary building I am now ready for a strength building cycle. ON MY WAY TO 500lbs BABY!

Kevin, thanks for your honesty and integrity here on the Levrone Report. The fact that you showed yourself squating 440 lbs. for one set of 3 reps and then shutting it down says a lot about your character and honesty. A lot of bodybuilders with bigger ego’s or a less than honest philosophy would never have allowed themselves to be filmed having a less than perfect workout. I respect you for giving us an honest look at you battling with the heavy weights. You are a true bodybuilding champion.
I can’t describe how helpful your reports are for myself and many bodybuilders. You’re so real and down to earth. I knew the first time I watched, where your heart and passion was.
Your encouragement is awsome!! I promise to pay it forward baby!!!!!
Charting my progress and watching yours, puts me closer to my ultimate potential. A deep hearted thanks, Kevin
Hey man, give this a shot on your next squat. When using wraps, wrap above and below the knee cap. Leave the knee cap exposed. Also make sure you’re wrapping from outside towards the inner thigh. Should create greater stability, and no twinges in the knee. Best of luck, bro, and much success!
Thanx Kevin for the inspiration to keep trying to improve… I’m on my way to 300lb squatland, I improved my squat today to 275lbs and I noticed something interesting…. this 4 set 4 rep method really works on strength…
I’ve refined it abit… I’m doing 3 warm ups, 4 sets of 4 reps and then 4 sets of 12 reps and then 4 sets of 20 reps… the higher reps are to help burn fat and go as far down for a better stretch…. I know many would say too much volume… but for me it seems to be working… its weird I have no leg soreness at all…. whereas when I do other exercises like shoulders I’m really hurting… that actually probably explains why I’m weaker on bench…. my shoulders are my weak point…
I’m doing my squat training in the power rack and I noticed increasing strength is easy in the power rack compared to the regular squat rack…. its true that form is important but so is power… and partials are okay sometimes on reps to help build that power…. since I’ve also added partials to my training I noticed a boost in strength on squats…. I’m going to apply this principle to all my training and hopefully make some huge gains in strength…. right now I’m lifting a pathetic measly 225lbs for bench and barely at that, and 180lbs on incline bench, and for shoulder 115lbs standing behind neck press…
The other exercise I’ve added which I’ve noticed huge gains in my biceps and lats fast, is weighted pullups… I used to not be able to do any. Now I’m up to 40lb narrow grip weighted pull ups…. I was up to 30 lb wide grip but had pain so backed off and now I’m working on higher reps no weight for widegrip…. my goal is to do pull ups with additional weight of 100lbs… when I get there I’ll post a Utube video…
Kevin, for your next challenge, I challenge you to do pull ups with 100lb attached to your weight lifting belt…
I’m really glad my computer found a way to enjoy your magnificent writing. You’re writing is a fantastic break from the usual. I hope to subscribe to this website in the future.I sincerly regretfor non-english ability.
I absolutely love your blog and find nearly all of your post’s to be just what I’m looking for. Do you offer guest writers to write content for yourself? I wouldn’t mind writing a post or elaborating on a lot of the subjects you write with regards to here. Again, awesome website!
As quickly as a cautious browse I believed it was really enlightening. I benefit from you taking the effort and time to place in this weblog post together. I as soon as once more uncover me personally spending way to much time both studying and leaving comments.

440!! wow!! so close to the end now.
Rest up my firend.
Hey Kev,
I feel for you man didn’t have the greatest leg workout yesterday did 220lbs again for 4 reps but my depth wasn’t the greatest and didn’t jump weight but next week most defiantly ill be able to throw another 10 to 15lbs on!
I believe in you i know you can squat 440 then 500 in no time man!!
Ciao
You did your best on the day Kevin, smart move to stop rather than risk injury. I wish I had listened to my body more often like you did today…I would have had far fewer injuries. Anyway Kevin, we KNOW you’re going to get that weight of 500. not a matter of if, simply when.
Thanks for posting your vids, inspirational!
Kev,
Good job man, I know you got it in you to do this.
Matt
we all have those days, wither it be legs or chest or whatever, important thing is safety first and listen to your body.
kev, you still doing nutrition Monday?
Hey Kev,
Take care of the knee, you don’t need it blowing out – that’s a nasty one to get over.
Just some more rest, recovery and eating and you should be smashing those squats again, no doubt!
Cheers
Kevin
I hope your knee gets better man. Those squats looked like you got ‘em easy, if your knee gets better, you know you got it. Maybe you can post some videos of other things you’re doing in the gym besides squats these days if you got the time. Get better bro.
Alex
I think we all want to know what you are going to do to get that knee into shape to squat 500 lbs in just two weeks. Mr. Miyagi’s going to rub his hands together. I don’t know, I hate to see you wounded in action but I digging this suspense. You lost the battle, but you have two weeks to win a war. you can do it, we believe. keep in mind our support.
Looked good to me Kev. Form was tight and you were fluid. But if you weren’t zoned in or felt a twinge, better to shut it down.
I made the mistake of not listening to my body during squats one time and it cost me a 25% tear to patellar tendon!
Rock N Roll!
Week 8, Wednesday -- Deadlift -- 2x2 @ 500lbs
Kevin, I thought about the fire that inspires when I pulled my last set of deads today. Just when I thought I didn’t have any thing left in the tank, I pulled a personal record. I just wanted to let you know that you truly do inspire us.
I could tell you to “keep it up” or “your first three looked easy” or some other encouraging comment, but the fact remains that YOU are the only one who controls what happens when you’re under that bar.
Best of luck Mr. Levrone,
-Handy
hi Kev, i think its great you made this vid, even though you didnt get the satisfaction you wanted, you hsve shown us how important it is to listen to our bodies, (the crux of bodybuilding progress) i will remember that. get well soon and rest that knee. no sense in fighting against the body. all the best. waitiing patiently for the next vid!
I recently improved my squat from a pathetic 100 lbs to 200 lbs…in under 30 days… I weight 150lbs… hopefully one day I can get my squat back up to my best of 315 and expand on it to 400 then 500… I’m shooting for the same goal…
spotter wearing bev francis gym shirt, great place
It’s not a lot now… But it will be
Cheers!
good effort kev those 3 you banged out looked strong
shame you had the twinge but like you said it happens
youve been goin pretty hard for several months so you deserve a decent break over christamas to recover
im taking a couple weeks off over christmas and new years to let my body heal
up to 110kg squats now with ease
really learning alot from this blog
thanks kev and all the guys on levronereport
merry xmas and happy new years to all
take it easy
adam
Norweigian:
The 4x4 sure worked to get him to 440 no?
The 4x4 sure worked to get him to 405 bench no?
Nuff said.
LEX
Good job Kevin, mad respect bro
Thanks for posting the vid. I wished I had listened to my body, instead of sustaining multiple injuries I have. Rest up and I’m sure you will come back stronger and hit the 500, if not it has been a fantastic journey already.
Peace.
Thx for the shout-out, bro… Just trying to return some energy/positivity to this community since you all inspire me so much…
Michel R out
good to see you are human hehehe,,, better to be safe then sorry, blowing out a knee could end everything even your life with 440 coming crashing down.
Levrone are you going to do a deadlift challenge after completing the squat one?
Brother you are an absolute beast, it doesn’t mean jack if you didn’t do it today……the fact of the matter is, you said you’re gonna be regrouping, digging deep and bigger and better things are to come…….that’s what any of us gotta do when we hit a rut.
That’s why this community is so great, we all motivate one another…….keep strong Kevin Levrone.
brother from the T.DOT…….OUT
Agree with the posters above, no shame in knowing when your body’s not upto it. I’m taking inspiration from your vids and will probably run a similar routine when the weather cools down here.
Best of luck
thanks dog, for showing us that even a champion can think smart, and say stop when he don’t feel right. that means i can too, right..i actually have a huge problem with my ego when it comes to squatting and deadlifts..i’ll try to think of this vid whenever im struggling wid my ego, come dead/squat-day.
thanks BigKev!
All the best from Croatia Kevin!
Goran
3. “visualization is crap”. dude, you just haven’t done it enough serious, that’s all. it works for kevin and it works for lots of other guys. if you gave it a chance and it hasn’t worked for you. man, i’m sorry, then you just need to use another approach.
just because there are things you could do even better, it’s not an option to say that everybody else is wrong. maybe it it just your personality and your character, which forces you to do things a little bit different than the majority of other athletes can do.
good video kevin. i know you are aware of what you are doing a 100%. you did it all before so take your time for this. you have the whole community -- and lots of others who don’t post in this blog but talk about it in all kinds of boards -- behind you. good luck.
Excellent Kev234
u be spot on the money
Hi,
I am a big fan of Kevin’s.
Good luck with your training, everyone
Peace
Kevin tell them the truth.
It happens. I was following “Strive for 405lbs” and enjoyed your progress. Squat is, as you know I am sure, much more complicated movement that flat bench press.
I am with you -- health is most precious thing in the world. There is no weight on squat that can buy it.
Enjoy your rest.
Hey Kevin,
Rest up bro, you’ll come back stronger and meaner than ever. Keep up the hard work.
awesome post kevin. i think i’ll put this one…
Hey Kev,
smart, veteran move stopping there after feeling something in your knee.
Peace
Don’t worry about it Kevin, you did great with 440 pounds, as the old saying goes “Live to fight another day”.
Yes! But no knees = no squatting
You showed us a great example there, thanks.

@Kev: just read your comment, well put.
Hey, Kev!
Good choice in stopping when you didn’t feel right. You’re a big inspiration for us all!
Again about the Knee.. I did notice you did not stretch nor did you do any really good warm ups. Maybe that was the issue!~
500 just question of the time
dont worry be happy)
Well said Kev. Visualization is not the whole pie, but a critical component to success.
This just shows your experience and seasoning and why you are one of the best. How you deal with adversities rather than victories shows the type of champion you are.
Peace
Its kinda good to see your human! Rest up and get at it with more fokus then ever! snd Kev… Im sory to ask, but when are you going to start discuss steroids on here? I got the impression you would after your pull, would be intresting! Cheers
Great video, it shows that you are human. Where in MD do you train?
Hey Kevin that’s was the best thing to do. It will just make victory taste better.
I agree. No legs = No squats

kev please don’t punish yourself or feel too down..you did the right thing stepping away..
It’s far too heavy a weight to take a gamble on… Your health and well being must come first..
Take time to recoup..don’t force the program…and only return to squat if or when you feel ready.
I’m sure I speak for us all when I say we want a healthy kev rather than a broken one
With best regards
Stevie t
Rest assured that everyone is with you, whichever way it goes from here.
just take it easy bro ..rome was not building in one day ……you health first ..
I just found this blog! Probably 1 millon people asked this to you before, are you planning to come back to the stage?
Rest, recover and come back stronger next time.
i squated 515 and man i was scared im still trying to press 405 im at 375 inshaallah i will get to it by april 2010
Sometimes -now is one of those occasions- Norweigian has a point, although the way he brings his messages always remain as blunt as possible… Not the way I would or will communicate IRL or online with folks, but this is his niche and he brings a lil diversity and adversity to this blog… Took me awhile to admit it, but the Levronereport without Norweigian (who was here from day one) isn’t the same…
Though I still don’t like you, Norweigian…
Michelin R out…
I agree Norweigian you bring discussion, which yes is good and bad but thats just you you like to be like that but when you write some of the things you write, im gonna let you know if you piss me off, im just like that when people piss me off and im gonna get at you in what ever way i can.
@Joe
I agree with everything youve just written
Hi Kev
I came across this video of Ronnie Coleman and you. Are these weights in the bench press etc genuine? I suspect they are…wow talk about monstrous weights

@ ALL FELLOW BODYBUILDERS!!!
Hey Kev -- keep going chief -- know you’ve got it in you -- take it in your stride. We’re all backing you. Tom
That music was fucking crazy haha
Michel R out…
now it’s getting interesting!
the best thing comes to those who wait it out buddy,
can we get a closer look at that cranckable belt ?
way to train smart kev, aint nobody doubtin ya. we know you got it just gotta regroup and get back at it.

Dave
KEVIN,
I can’t describe how helpful your reports are for myself and many bodybuilders.
Kevin!
Dex
Hi from japan, good website. i’ll come back next week to see what’s new.
Would you chance to know if it’s\'s safe to lift weights while trying to lose weight?
I found your site on bing. I enjoy this site so much. It’s great to see original content. I will most certainly be back to this site again!
Just a cool link for inspiration
Excellent posting. I’m definitely a fan. You should keep up the good work and I will look forward to view your next article.
